AN ALL-INCLUSIVE UNDERGRADUATE MEDICAL PROGRAM

General Information

Students pursuing a career in the field of medicine with a path towards:

  • Other Healthcare Profession

Application Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to travel outside of the U.S.
  • We accept students from all universities & colleges
  • We accept undergraduate, post-baccalaureate & graduate students
  • No minimum GPA
  • No medical experience needed

Program Information

Destination:

  • Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic

Program departs from/returns to:

  • Either Miami International Airport (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) located in South Florida.

 

(For out-of-state students or those who do not live near the South Florida area, accepted students will be responsible for any transportation expenses (taxi, airfare, e.g.) getting to and from the airport listed above.

Application Deadline:

  • 14 days prior to the start of the program. Keep in mind, all programs have a 15 student capacity and 10 student minimum. Accepted students will be granted a spot in the program on a “first paid, first served” basis.

The Stay

The MedX housing residence is one of the most important aspects of the program for us, and it is very carefully selected. Although we do not stay at one specific home/villa, due to availability, size of program, etc, we always ensure that our home for the week always provides the essentials for our students and staff to feel comfortable and safe.

Community Service

“Hogar de las Niñas” Shelter Visit

  • A visit to the boys or girls shelter to spend the afternoon engaging in fun activities with the children, creating memorable experiences and fostering a sense of community. Part of the students’ program fee supports the shelter’s facility improvement projects and donations, helping provide better care and support for the children. This activity emphasizes our commitment to giving back and making a positive impact on underserved communities.

Community Medical Service Walk

  • Join local doctors, nurses, and medical students in delivering free, door-to-door care in the underserved community of Censaide, La Vega. This powerful outreach experience also allows MedX students to apply skills from the Vital Signs Workshop in real-world settings.

• Assist in taking patient’s vital signs intake
• Support local healthcare professionals in fieldwork
• Engage directly with underserved communities

Medical Activities

Medical Simulation Workshops

  • Our program features hands-on medical simulation workshops developed by U.S. physicians, tailored for aspiring healthcare professionals. These immersive sessions provide real-world experience and practical skills that help students gain confidence and clarity in their future careers.

• Suturing Workshop

“Surgical Resident for the Day” Experience

  • Step into the OR during a full 10–12 hour surgical rotation, shadowing surgeons and their teams through every phase of surgery, from pre-op to post-op. Students gain firsthand exposure to real procedures across multiple specialties.

• Shadow surgeons through full-length surgical procedures
• Learn pre-op planning, intraoperative technique, and post-op care
• Exposure to specialties like general, neuro, ortho, GI, urology, and more

“Labor and Delivery of a Baby” Experience

  • Students will step into the maternity wing to observe real-time care in obstetrics, before, during, and after delivery. From learning clinical protocols to potentially witnessing a live birth, this immersive experience offers rare insight into one of medicine’s most life-changing fields.

• Observe pre- and post-delivery procedures in a maternity unit
• Learn from OB/GYN staff about real patient cases
• Potential to witness a live childbirth in a clinical setting

Clinical Rotation and Hospital Rounds

  • Join MedX leaders for immersive clinical rotations that expose students to real cases and demonstrate how hospital departments work together. Students will rotate through diverse specialties like orthopedics, internal medicine, ICU, radiology, and more.

• Cross-department rounds
• Specialty rotations

Hospital & Medical School Tour

  • Get a behind-the-scenes look at the medical school and hospital where future professionals are trained. Tour anatomy labs, classrooms, and key hospital departments to explore the full educational and clinical environment.

• Anatomy & simulation labs
• Clinical skills training facilities
• Hospital department

Excursion Day

Beyond the medical experience, students explore the island’s natural beauty and culture. From waterfalls to horseback riding, this day adds adventure and cultural depth to the MedX journey.

• Visit Salto Baiguate waterfall
• Ride horses along scenic river trails
• Tour the historic Santiago Monument

MedX Ceremony

The MedX Ceremony is a formal celebration honoring student achievements, including community service and clinical hours. The evening includes dinner, certificates, and inspirational messages from staff.

• Receive official program completion certificate
• Celebrate with dinner and reflections
• Hear closing remarks from program leaders

Program Pricing

All MedX programs are all-inclusive. Payment plans and Sponsorship Fundraiser are also offered to all accepted students.
